You Are a Marvel...
Each moment we live never was before and will never be again... And yet what we teach children in school is 2 + 2 = 4 and Paris is the capital of France. What we should be teaching them is what they are. We should be saying: "Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the world there is no other child exactly like you. In the millions of years that have passed, there has never been another child exactly like you. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything.
Yes, you are a marvel.” ~ Pablo Casals

2017-2018 School Year

Happy School Year Jaguars,

In Health and Fitness we are working on:
1) Respecting ourself ~ this means that we have positive self talk, that we learn when we don't succeed (having a growth mindset), and to challenge ourselves (to find that sweet spot when things are not too hard, but also not easy because then we are not learning.

2) Respecting others ~ this means to have positive talk when we are talking to others in all activities, to also respect people and the space and equipment around them, and trying to keep everyone safe in all activities.

3) Respecting our space and equipment ~ this means that we have to be aware of our surroundings whether we are outside or inside, look where we are going, choosing safe pathways and taking care of our equipment and the space we use.

Learning The Five Components of Fitness:
1) Cardiorespiratory Endurance
2) Muscular Endurance
3) Muscular Strength
4) Flexibility
5) Body Composition

Happy Winter!

Hi Parents and Students,

If you are in the 5th grade, no matter where you live, you can ski or ride FREE at any participating ski area with the Ski Free Passport Program.  The Ski and Ride FREE Passport is a great way for students to experience the great outdoor winter recreation in North Idaho and Eastern Washington with your friends and family.

How is works: The passport allows 5th graders to ski or snowboard FREE 3 days at each participating Ski the Northwest Rockies resorts.  After submitting an application (online is the fastest application), you will receive a passport booklet in the mail.  There is a $20 processing fee, but the actual application and booklet is FREE.   Here is the website for the online application and more info.

To complete the online application, you will need to upload a digital photo that shows the 5th graders face and also a valid credit card.  If you are not comfortable with the online application and process, I sent home the Passport application a week ago with all 5th graders.  You can also email me, and I will send another one home with your student.

Here are the places the Passport is accepted:
49 Degrees North
Mt. Spokane
Silver Mountain
Lookout Pass
Loup Loup

Some ski areas even have deals on lessons and rentals for students.  Some local rental places also have great deals on all season rentals for students.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Skiing is one of my favorite winter time activities, so you might see me up on the mountain!

I do know that Lookout Pass has a Free Ski/Snowboard School from January 7-March 11th.  This is a great way to try skiing and snowboarding with beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons.  So awesome!  I wish they had this when I was a kid.   Information is on their website.

Happy Skiing,
Mrs. Wittwer

We are looking for our Meadow Ridge Sports shirts.  They look like this and are the dry fit material.

Please turn any shirts you have into the office and they will get it to me.  Thank you so much for your help and support of Meadow Ridge athletics!
